Spongecore

There's a new style of music that's come about since all of this AI nonsense came about. I noticed it last year when people were using one of the AI voice changing apps to filter the vocals of popular metal songs to make it sound like Plankton was singing it. I noticed a lot of people were doing other songs with other characters, but something about Plankton's vocal library lended itself really well to screaming vocals. It makes sense, he's always yelling in the show. Then, I stumbled upon 2 artists in particular; BOI WHAT and Glorb.

BOI WHAT

I'm not even joking when I say that BOI WHAT is one of my favorite metalcore artists of the 2020s. The interesting thing is that all of the music is his own. The only usage of AI is modifying the vocals to make it sound like the character you choose. Think like T-Pain using autotune. T-Pain is an incredibly talented musician. The autotune is just a stylistic choice. I feel the usage of AI for BOI WHAT is the same. The music itself and the vocals are all done by BOI WHAT.

Another thing I like about BOI WHAT is that the lyrics can be interpreted to represent the impacts of AI on the creation of art. Go read through some of the comments on the videos, there's usually some good commentary on the lyrics.

This song blew my mind so hard when I first heard it. Spongebob was easily one of the most influential shows of my childhood

The secret formula!!
This was actually the first Boi What song I heard! It randomly showed up on my feed. I didn't know Jeris Johnson (who is also awesome) nor Boi What at the time. So when the song first played I was like yeah, this is pretty good. Then 1:11 hits and I'm headbanging at this point, and I'm like wait...is that fuckin Plankton? Then he says the line about bikini bottom and I was so confused. The rest is history, as written here.

This next one even has a real animated music video! Here's a great comment from Youtube describing it:

"I genuinely love the storytelling visually here, its amazing. Plankton solo songs has always invloved ai art, and the underlying message of the soullessness of ai art work. Yet here we see a human made music video when its Sandy taking the main stage here. And the parts invloving Sandy is all human made, drawing and animations.

Yet the part with plankton is more agressive and unstable, he constantly shifting between human made and ai style, forcing everything around it to bend to him, become automated. Yet hes the loudest and most expressive, nearly always overpowering sandy in her own song, as if hes forcing her out, forcing away human creativity.

Near the end it implies despite the best effort, Sandy herself is being automated by plankton. Her humanity being forced out. An incredibly well directed video with an amazing message. Ive been listening to this song on repeat for weeks and this video made me appreciate it so much more"

He just cannot stop making bangers. This one has been stuck in my head since the video dropped.

BOI WHAT also has a few other songs out. They're good, but I've showcased my favorites.

Glorb

BOI WHAT is Spongebob metalcore. Glorb, however...is Spongebob gangster rap. Not only that, there's a full-blown ongoing storyline about a massive gang war in Bikini Bottom. The other fun thing about Glorb is that his identity is still a secret.

Glorb has quite a few songs that I like equally, so here's a random one. I recommend going back to the beginning and watching them all in order since there is a cohesive story.

When Gary was like meow meow meow I was like haha yeah

My favorite Glorb song is not that much of a rap song. I think this is his best work by far.

Yes, they certainly can.
